Before hiring a Private Detective or Security Officer, please check with the Private Protective Services Board of North Carolina at 919 875 3611 or the State Law Enforcement Division of South Carolina at 803 737 9000.

Please insure that they are fully licensed, how long they have been in business and whether there have been any complaints filed against them.

Both states require Detectives to offer a written contract for their services and submit written reports to their clients.

They should also submit a detailed invoice at the conclusion of the case.

You should check with the local Better Business Bureau for any complaints, if they were resolved and what kind of rating the company has.
